Francis Bacon (1909-1992) is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest painters of the twentieth century. Bacon was born in Dublin but lived most of his life in London and despite having no formal art training he became one of the most influential figurative painters of the post-war era famed for his disturbing and powerful images of the human form. His importance has recently been underlined by the record prices paid for his work. Bacon’s Arena was nominated for an international Emmy and is widely acclaimed as the definitive biographical documentary on Francis Bacon. This special edition DVD produced in association with the Estate of Francis Bacon has been created to mark the centenary of his birth (2009) and coincides with the start of a 4 month retrospective at the Tate Britain gallery in London.
