Made at the end of the sixties Monique benefited from the increased liberalism of the time and dealt freely with the issues of bisexuality, and lesbianism. Mixing a tight script with a strong cast and a believable plot in which a newly arrived au pair girl (Sibylla Kay – Vampire Circus) livens up a tired marriage by simultaneously beginning affairs with both the husband (David Sumner) and the wife (Joan Alcorn – The Love Box).This was to be the director John Bown’s only film as he moved on to acting fulltime starring in a number of features including Vampire Circus (1972), Fear in the Night (1972) and most recently Dark Waters (2006) with Thora Birch of American Beauty fame.
