In a future authoritarian state run by The Party and watched over by Big Brother Winston Smith (Peter Cushing) rebels by beginning an illicit love affair and plotting revolution. Filmed mainly live in December 1954 only six years after George Orwell’s novel was published this legendary adaptation by Nigel Kneale (Quartermass) was one of the most controversial programmes of its time with its supposed subversive nature and horrific content resulting in viewer complaints and questions being asked in Parliament.
