3 film on one disc – Three documentaries chronicling the Vietnam War, the Cold War conflict that grew out of the American determination to contain communism, which became known as ‘America’s Longest War’
Part 1 – ‘1941 to 1967’ – This film covers the early history of Vietnam and includes the French surrender to the escalation of American involvement in the sixties.
Part 2 – ‘1968’ The Tet Offensive – Viet Cong forces attack the Americans with waves of heavy fighting during The Tet Offensive. Ultimately it proves catasstrophic for the North with 37,000 fatal casualties, but the Americans start to lose the propaganda war and support at home melts away.
Part 3 – ‘1968 to 1975’ – From the invasion of Cambodia to the fall of Saigon. At a time punctuated by anti-war protests in the USA, almost half a million soldiers were fighting in Vietnam.
